Pandemic Project - let’s build a plunge pool!

A hare-brained scheme for sure, but I had this idea to squeeze an in-ground, heated plunge pool into my side-yard. With nowhere else to go during Spring 2020, I grabbed a shovel and started digging. In 3 days, I had a 5 foot deep hole…

Gravel over the insulation, before concrete

Mixing the concrete for the base of the tub

Pouring concrete into forms

Concrete day!

77 bags of concrete and a very long, hard day!

Concrete poured - hopefully it will hold together!

We have a concrete tub!

Once the concrete was dry, I pulled off the forms, (which was very difficult in such a tight space), and everything looked good! Next, I built the forms for the seats and poured them.

Then I dug another hole, this one for the water heater, pump and filter.

Plumbing next. This took some time; figuring out what sort of heating system would work for my project and working out how to plumb it all together. But finally, several months later, I switched it on!

Great all year round!

From start to finish - still working well 4 years in…

Filling the tub for the first time

The moment of truth - it works!
